1st IAB Meeting

Apr 20

1st IAB Meeting

The first HKCRC Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) Meeting was successfully held at the Center office recently. The IAB and the steering committee discussed the future trend of the construction industry, provided suggestions and support for the future directions of the Center.

During the meeting, board members signed the appointment letter and are officially appointed as industry advisors, representing the formal establishment of the IAB.

The main purpose of the meeting is to find out the pain points in the industry and to discuss the direction of the Center's initial projects.

"Pain points everywhere" concludes the current state of the Hong Kong construction industry.

Firstly, it is difficult to standardize the industry. Complicated operating environment, differentiation between projects, and various standards applied in each company make construction plans and robots hard to be adopted universally.

Second, the high construction cost resulting from the Hong Kong government's legal requirements is hard to eliminate. Therefore, intelligent construction in Hong Kong should focus on providing better services and construction products, instead of eliminating manpower. In contrast, the main problem of the mainland construction industry lies in the aging workforce, which is highly mobile and low in production efficiency.

As a result, the IAB recommends the Center to start from low hand fruit by realizing intelligence from automation. Potential projects should be carried out in different stages depending on the time frame and level of complexity.

The attendance of the meeting agreed to provide corresponding resources, such as technology support, hardware supply and site visits opportunities.

The Center will continue to establish a mature communication system between IAB and steering committee members for further cooperation in the future.
