Professor Li Zexiang led HKCRC to participate in LEAP 2024 to showcase construction technology achievements

From March 4th to 7th, the largest tech show in the Middle East, LEAP 2024 was hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh with a total of 1,800+ exhibitors, 600+ start-ups and 1,300+ investors from all over the world. Participants communicated and discussed multiple innovative development fields such as innovative economy, smart cities, and smart construction.

Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics(HKCRC) and its incubation team Skyland Innovation participated and exhibited a variety of intelligent construction products and multiple solutions.

At the exhibition, Professor Li Zexiang was invited to give a speech titled "From Laboratory to Start-up Company: New Paradigm of Innovation", proposing a path for cultivating innovative talents and companies. He also emphasized that Saudi Arabia's development can learn from the model of Shenzhen, China, which can promote cooperation between Saudi Arabia and China.

Currently, Saudi attracts world attention and has huge potential and development opportunities. In 2016, the King of Saudi Arabia proposed the "Saudi Vision 2030", which aims to promote the development of Saudi Arabia from economic, social and cultural aspects and transform the economic model that relies on oil exports as its main income.

In this vision, Saudi will create a new city “Neom”, covering a total of 26,500 square kilometers and able to accommodate a population of 9 million. Decreasing the dependence on oil resources is one of the goals of saudi vision 2030. For the construction of Neom, Saudi will face a sharp increase in the number of construction projects now and in the future.

In order to achieve more efficient and low-carbon construction goals, innovative technologies such as smart construction may become one of the effective aids in promoting Saudi's transformation and construction. HKCRC has been continuously improving technology and developing construction technology products. The current technology products have covered important directions such as smart design, construction digitalization, automation and robotics and intelligent machinery and equipment. In this exhibition, HKCRC demonstrated a smart tower crane project and a rebar tying robot, which are very suitable for Saudi's current huge demand for infrastructure construction and attracted everyone's attention.

Smart Crane

Intelligent tower crane can automatically plan lifting routes based on three main functions: safety monitoring, remote operation and intelligent control. Operators can work and receive data remotely in a safe working environment, improving safety and operational accuracy.

Rebar Tying Robot

The rebar tying robot is compact and flexible in design. It only requires one person to operate it. The robot adopts intelligent steel bar node identification algorithm and intelligent control, so that it can move and tie in different scenes and steel bar grids. Compared with manual tying, the efficiency is increased by 3 times.

In the future, HKCRC will continue to conquer smart construction technology, delve into multiple research and development directions, and work with XbotPark and CIDI to empower the construction and development of the Middle East.
