The Rebar Tying Robot was rewarded Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva

On April 21, 2024, the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva concluded successfully in Geneva, Switzerland. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) sent 36 teams. The Hong Kong Center for Construction and Robotics (HKCRC) accompanied the teams and won the Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury and the Gold Medal, which gained international recognition and demonstrated the strength of science and innovation.
The rebar tying robot developed by HKCRC was rewarded the highest honor——Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury and passed unanimously. The robot is equipped with autonomous identification and positioning, automatic obstacle avoidance, automatic column change, etc., and can complete the tying work of large area in the center of the steel mesh in a fully automatic mode. The robot can tie one node in 5 seconds, 500 nodes per hour.

Meanwhile, smart crane tower researched by HKCRC won the Gold Medal. Smart tower crane includes intelligent equipment with multi-functions such as safety inspection, alarm prompts, assisting construction management, and through 5G, SLAM, sensors, AI and other technologies, remote control and automatic path planning of the tower crane can be realized.
HKUST has achieved remarkable progress in this year's Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, winning a total of 36 awards, including the Prize of the Chinese Delegation for Invention and Innovation, four Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, and multiple Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.
