HKCRC Hosts Guests From Singapore and Introduce A Number of Building Technology Achievements

On 17 June, the Deputy CEO of Building Control, Mr CHIN Chi Leong, led a delegation to visit the XbotPark in Songshan Lake. Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics hosted heads of 7 government agencies including the Building and Construction Authority (BCA)Housing and Development Board (HDB)Land Transport Authority (LTA)Ministry of Education (MOE)Changi Airport Group (CAP)and 9 heads of development and construction companies including CapitaLandCity Developments LimitedWoh Hup Private LimitedBoustead Projects Pte LtdObayashi CorporationStraits Construction Singapore Pte LtdTeambuild Engineering & Construction Pte LtdExyte Singapore Pte Ltd and Gammon Pte. Limited.

The main aim of the Singapore delegation was to build a bridge between Singapore and the XBotPark start-up teams, exploring the possibility of in-depth technical exchanges and project co-operation between the two sides from the perspective of the existing achievements in science and technology.

During the visit, Dr Liang Haobo, Head of HKCRC led the Singaporean delegation to visit a number of innovative products.

Among them, the Singaporean delegation expressed great interest in HKCRC's self-developed rebar tying robot, which focuses on flat rebar mesh tying in construction scenarios, with automatic identification and positioning, automatic obstacle avoidance and automatic column changing, and is used in roads, bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure construction, and prefabrication factories for rebar mesh tying, and other tying processes.

In May this year, the project team of the rebar tying robot also visited Singapore with the Hong Kong Science Park. In response to the labour shortage and high labour costs in Singapore's construction industry, the application of this robot can complete 500 nodes in one hour with only one person's remote control, while workers do not need to work on the ground, which can improve work safety and efficiency. Introducing construction technology into rebar tying operations is also the key entry point for future cooperation between the two parties.

Meanwhile, AI measurement is one of the most important technologies to promote the development of building intelligence: the MetaCam scans in real time to obtain a true-colour point cloud model of the building scene; and the IoT flatness meter combines three measurement modes:horizontal, vertical and flatness. The Singaporean delegation also expressed strong interest in the application of AI technology in building surveying.

Mr CHIN Chi Leong suggested that this visit is only the beginning, and he hopes to have more cooperation with Xbotpark to promote the development of Singapore's construction industry towards automation, intelligence and standardisation.
